ABOUT

David Felicio is a professional area musician who has been playing for twenty years and teaching for ten. You may have seen David at the Bull Run Tap House for the Monday Night Mmmashup or at the Bullfrog Brewery for the Sunday Jazz Workshop. Beyond this, David has played with such local groups as the Burgess, Mitchell, & Stetz Trio, The Andy Seal Trio, and recorded with Juliana Zafa, as well as his own two bands, The Twindows and Pleasure Kills.

David, who was raised in Lewisburg, graduated Lewisburg Area High School (LAHS) in 2006. During his time at LAHS, David not only performed as a member of the Marching Band, Jazz/Rock Ensemble, Concert Band, Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, Concert Choir, and Chambre Choir, but also served as Captain of the Drum Line his senior year, and completed all available high school Music Theory courses. Also during this time, David received 6 years of private instruction from award-winning area drummer Steve Mitchell and played in a number of area groups, both amongst his peers and with more experienced musicians.

After graduating from LAHS, David went on to study Ethnomusicology and Political Science at Oberlin College, earning his degree in these areas while maintaining a minor in Environmental Studies. During his tenure at college, David received additional private drum lessons from various instructors through the Oberlin Conservatory, played in a number of informal groups, and studied the musical traditions of the Balkans, India, Indonesia, Brazil, and parts of the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) regions. He also did some work in Organology (the classification of musical instruments) and had the opportunity to participate in the Oberlin Capoeira Angola community for all 3 years he attended, where, among other things, he learned how to play the Berimbau and the accompanying instruments of the bateria (Agogo, Recho Recho, Pandeiro, and Atabaque) with some proficiency.

David is very enthusiastic about teaching the art of drumming and feels he is at the point in his life where his knowledge, experience, and faculty in drumming are such that he can capably instruct Beginning and Intermediate students in a wide range of styles. Likewise, David is potentially interested in playing with other area musicians and groups. If you are interested in collaborating with David or taking drum lessons, please refer to the Contact page.
